European broad-leaved forest

Historically broad-leaved forests was dominant forest type in Latvia even few hundred years ago with plant communities similar to ones in central Europe, the lack of some characteristic species as beech (Fagus sylvatica) and hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) are due to geographical limitations.  Today these two species are start to be present in our forests.
